Developing F1 Foil Racing
DEVELOPING THE F1 CONCEPT
Foil racing places particular demands on the sail. Once the board is flying, changes in rig pressure affect the rider’s balance and the way the foil is controlled. We develop the F1 around efficient power, stable handling and the precision needed to maintain speed throughout a race.
Power balanced for flight
Our starting point is the connection between sail pressure and foil control. The F1 needs enough drive to accelerate and build speed, with a delivery that helps the rider maintain a consistent stance.
We work on the position and stability of the profile so the rig supports the rider while flying. The objective is a balanced feeling that allows attention to stay on foil pressure, direction and speed.
That balance needs to remain useful across different stages of a run, from building flight to sailing fully powered. The sail must help the rider use increasing wind pressure efficiently while keeping its reactions predictable.
A stable and efficient profile
The profile and leech must work together as wind pressure changes. We develop the F1 to retain useful drive while controlling how the sail releases excess pressure.
Predictable rig pressure helps the rider remain in a settled stance and make more deliberate adjustments to the foil. This becomes increasingly important as speed rises and small changes in balance have a greater effect.
The relationship between sail shape, tension and support is central to this work. We look for a rig that responds promptly to input while retaining the stability needed for sustained foil speed.
Handling through transitions
A race includes repeated changes of direction, and the sail must work through the complete manoeuvre. We consider how easily the rig moves, how it rotates and how smoothly useful power returns on the new tack.
The aim is to help the rider reconnect with the sail and foil efficiently after a gybe. Clear, manageable responses support confident transitions and help preserve momentum between reaches.
Development therefore includes careful attention to trim, cam rotation and the way the complete rig behaves under load.
Who we develop it for
The F1 is for experienced windfoilers whose priority is racing performance. It suits riders who want to refine their setup, develop their technique and make use of a dedicated foil racing sail.
Its purpose is to give committed riders the drive, balance and response needed to push foil speed, with a rig they can trust as the demands increase.
