Developing AC-1 LTD Racing

DEVELOPING THE AC-1 LTD CONCEPT

The AC-1 LTD is developed around the demands of slalom racing. Acceleration, sustained speed and control under pressure guide the concept. Every part of the sail must contribute to the rider’s ability to drive the board efficiently and keep pushing when the course or conditions become difficult.

Making power useful

We want the AC-1 LTD to generate strong forward drive from a stable profile. That power must arrive in a position the rider can use, allowing a balanced connection between sail, harness, board and fin.

Profile depth and its position are central to this work. We look for the drive needed to accelerate, recover speed after a gybe and maintain momentum through changes in wind strength.

The sail should support an active racing stance and respond clearly when the rider commits. The relationship between available power and the ability to transfer it into the board is fundamental to the concept.

Stability at racing speed

A racing sail must remain composed as pressure builds. We develop the profile, outline and release of the leech together, so the rig can keep working efficiently through gusts and rough water.

The aim is to make the available power predictable. Stable pressure helps the rider maintain board trim, choose a line and concentrate on the next manoeuvre. Control contributes directly to speed because it allows the rider to stay committed.

Handling also matters through the gybe. The transition onto the new tack and the return of drive should help the rider regain speed and reconnect with the fin.

Development through precise feedback

Racing development depends on small differences that become clear on the water. Our testing examines how the sail accelerates, balances and responds to trim, together with the effort needed to maintain performance.

A useful improvement must work as part of the complete rig. More drive needs to remain controllable. A lighter sensation must still support a stable profile. Easier handling should help the rider use the racing character more effectively.

These relationships guide our development decisions and keep the purpose consistent.

Who we develop it for

The AC-1 LTD is for committed slalom racers and performance riders who enjoy tuning their equipment and developing the technique to use it.

It rewards an active approach to sailing and a well-matched setup. For riders whose priority is racing potential, its concept centres on turning wind pressure into acceleration, speed and sustained performance.
