The fastest sail in downwind slalom racing. The name AC-1 derives simply from the initials and sail number of Andrea Cucchi put together. Point-7 founder, head of development, team manager and the man who last year decided to create a group of young professionals and have them train together under the name “BLACK TEAM”.
Improving a project that has a long history of development and amazing success takes even more time than a new project. It has been inspected and tested in each single corner, but for 2023 we can call it a big change. The 8.8 is a new size that will make sure that you will not need a bigger size for slalom sailing. The new power in light wind of the sail will increase the average speed on the course as in light wind is simply better, maintaining the qualities that we all have experienced in these years. 7.8 has followed the same development of the 8.8, but the feeling of this new 7.8 is the control in the gusts that it will give to the board. The sail has become even easier as the wind builds up and will keep power in light wind. 7.1 is now a 7.0. For 2022 we had lingered the boom as the power was too close to the 6.2 in the past, and that was already one step forward. By reworking the profile, the leach, and the outline, we have produced the best 7.1 AC-1 ever in Point-7. Acceleration better, speed better, comfort better…you name it, and it will just be better. 200m on it and you will not go back to the older model, which was already a great sail. 6.0, 5,4 and 4.9 are the new smaller sizes from the AC-1. The same boom length but a total new outline from the top of the leach. A much tighter leach due to the smaller head is the new AC-1. A faster outline which makes the sail much more stable and firmer when dropping downwind at full throttle. A faster speed in light winds due to its tighter leach. Just 20% less effort needed when sailing in tough conditions.
- 5mil Anti UV- X-ply base panel for protection from accidents.
- Anti-UV transparent grey window to have a 100% Anti UV-Monofilm sail.
- X-ply luff sleeve for fast reflex.
- Lower Dacron wide sleeve for extra power and comfort. Three cams for maximum performance.
- 4mil Anti UV X-ply laminate for high reactivity.
- X-ply alternate batten pockets for lighter weight and reflex. 7 tubular battens, with 7 different setups to follow the pure slalom foil profile from the sail, including 3 batten construction in batten seven and six.
- A. The knuckle to execute a destroying drive.B. XXL wide sleeve, deep scaring profile from bottom to top for extreme power, stability, and deep downwind reaching.C. A strong closure to lock in the power by batten 1used a true winglet, creating the effect as closing the gap on the board. No dispersion of power from the top.D. Neutral and deep release to accelerate the wind to exist the sail, and have more coming in.E. The sail will automatically self-adjust its power, thanks to the S-Shaping, along the whole middle upper leach opening to increase or decrease the venturi effect in the sail.F. One eyelet to make sure that the development of the S-shape and leach opening is controlled from the tension of the boom from the right spot.G. Closing to the mm the gap on the board and having an ulterior S-shape on the base batten for releasing pressure under extreme overpower conditions.
Approach the AC-One and start feeling both a little scared and excited about what’s about to happen! The feeling is amplified tenfold when you launch the deep-drafted, scary-looking, PWA World Champion race sail. Total Black with perfect Italian racing design. 7 battens, but Point-7 went even further with a 3-cam setup.
Plug & 0.7. Leaving the beach, the sail will totally feel light in your hands. Crank up the throttle and see how you get once set to 6th gear and be ready to absolutely fly! Why? Downforce! Softness and stability! The AC-1 pushes the deck down, eliminating any unwanted nose-lift from lively boards and absolutely charges through – or rather over – chop and swell. Yes, it’s insanely powerful yet easy to control as all the power is in the front, leaving the back hand with no effort to be applied. In fact, it is mega, turbo powerful – the acceleration is insane. But the force pins down the hull and leaves you in a nice, high position of control over the thumping V12 at the end of your arms. When it comes to jibing, the entrance to the jibe is easy thanks to its light profile at the rear part of the sail but be ready to handle the boosted power of its acceleration once you flip the sail. With the 3-cam the rotation is light and smooth.
Veni Vidi Vici. Men PWA SLALOM WORLD CHAMPION. Women PWA Vice World Champion. PWA Slalom Constructor Sail Champion. Defi Wind Winner. One Hour Classic Record Holder. PWA Youth World Champion.
#born07. The Point-7 Black Team. A team of professional sailors and designers who have proved themselves by designing the winning sail for the World Champion in the PWA Slalom World Tour.
Life is a race. Not only testing the sail for straight-line speeds, but also checking how the sail would perform in the starts and jibing around the marks with seven other riders closely in pursuit, just as in real competition conditions for which a racing sail is developed. To have the fastest sail on the racecourse. Comfort on the straight line, power out of the jibes, turbo boosted acceleration, light feel when carving through the jibe. Downward force to pin the board to give the best balance to hover over any water surface.
The AC-1 needs to have the mast inserted on top of the cams. After pulling downhaul to 15cm of its final setting you can either put on the boom, and later pop on the cams before putting the final downhaul on, or place the cams on with the right technique, pulling on full downhaul, and then putting the boom on. You will find more instructions and videos on the support section on our website.
Playing with the outhaul will boost up power or increase control. Tighten the lower 2 battens and the top batten, but just remove wrinkles on the other battens, without overtightening them.
