As the PWA in Japan, and the IFCA Slalom in Sylt where clashing dates with Defi, the Black Team had to divide itself to the different events.
DEFIWIND 2018! It’s the biggest windsurfing race of the year from many years. Over 1200 people in this edition and it keeps growing. Point-7 has been always successful at this event. In 2010, Pascal Toselli was finishing second, Andrea Cucchi was also second in 2013, first in 2014 and Lena Erdil second in the girls in 2015. After the no wind year from last year, 2018 was another windy year with 2 days of winds over 30 knots, and 2 amazing days to relax, share time with friends, see all the innovation from the different windsurfing brands present at the Expo.
Andrea Cucchi after being consistent in his results on his AC-One 5.6 and 6.2, managed to finish 4th overall and first from his category, 40-49. Cecile Decourt on the Point-7 Salt managed to finish 1st from the women!
Andrea Cucchi’ It’s a pity that all these events were clashing but taking part at the Defi is always a great experience even after I have taken part at this event 5 times! The 4 days were nonstop. 2 days of strong wind. Sunday, we had just below 10°C in the first race, and racing in short arm wetsuit all those km was already a challenge. It makes you feel good when you can push over your limits to try to catch that extra spot in the race. During the 4 days we also helped all our Point-7 friends tune their sails for the race, and it was a pleasure to visit We Ride surf shop in Leucate where we held a presentation with the clients of the shop. I’m happy for my 4th considering how the whole event was, and super happy for Cecile who won the women ranking, and I’m now on the road again, off to Sri Lanka to check the new 2019 production.’
PWA Japan was the first slalom event of the year for the super pros. Unfortunately, the wind was not pushing to have lots of slalom, but one elimination where the most focus rider can take the win in one shot..one opportunity! Lena Erdil from our girl’s Black Team was leading the final, till she decided to go to the wrong mark, realise, lose one position and finish second this first event! Still a great result for the team. Well done Lena.
The whole tour is now on the move to the second PWA event in Korea. The forecast is looking good for the weekend and Monday with North East winds over 15-20knots. The wind should ensure some good slalom elimination on the first 3 days. We wish our young Point-7 Black Team to show their growing talent!
Today will be the fourth day of the event from the IFCA slalom on the island of Sylt, Germany. Our 17years old Francesco Scagliola is sitting in 6th place after 3 slaloms. Yesterday they had a day off as the condition were good for wave sailing. As the event is shared with the German wave championship, slalom will be on today again, and conditions look for some light wind slalom action, but still with some big rolling waves from the day before. Check the IFCA page to follow it live, with amazing drone action.
