Jordy Vonk at the photoshoot.
Jordy #blackteam, joined us for the first time to our Point-7 photoshoot for the flat water sails. He had never had a chance to actually jump on board of the other flat water sails, apart from the AC-1 full cambered sail.
During the trip to Sardinia, he had the chance to test all models, in perfect thermic wind conditions, which are reflecting the conditions where most of us, will actually end up using the sails. From 12-20 knots.
Therefore sizes from 6.4 to 8.5 of the AC-X, HF, AC-K and AC-1.
I had an amazing time in Sardinia photoshooting all sails, and I enjoyed my time with every sail model. It was actually a nice experience and fun for me to jump back to other sails after sailing full race sails for the last years. Andrea did not almost give me the time to do 500m and he was so curious to have my feedback.
To start of, I was amazed by the power of the HF, with 6.9 I was planing really early and it gave me a really relax soft feeling. On the same time, I was feeling fast for a free ride sail. I see a lot of people using big wave sails on lakes, in my opinion those people will be better off with the HF: As easy as a wave sail, but more stable on straight line.
The AC-X shows that a sail doesn’t need cambers to go fast, the sail is having a big range and surprised me how fast and stable it is. Definitely the best sail for people that want an easy sail but secretly wants to beat their friends on the water !
Some people are afraid for sails with cambers, there’s no need to be afraid with the AC-K. Rigging is super easy. The cams almost pop up on the mast by themselves with the correct downhaul tension. The rotation is really smooth, together with a great top speed it’s the best sail for most slalom sailors out there. It can be easily used also for racing.
Useless that I talk about the AC-1 as I use it everyday, so not much words I need for that: there’s acceleration, top speed, power, comfort, and everything else you need to win races!
