Jordy Vonk is one of the new generation slalom sailor from the Netherland. Good looking blond boy of over 190 tall, bulding up his muscles for next season. He took part at the PWA tour this year, obtaining some good results in some of the eliminations, such as fifth in Sylt.
In the Netherlands, he will be also taking part at the national championships, and at the events that Point-7 Benelux will organize.

Jordy, welcome “to the darkside of windsurfing” by Point-7! What made you decide to go to Point-7?
Thanks! It’s been an honor to be ask for the Black Team by Andrea Cucchi. When Andrea explained everything about the team and his vision I was getting enthusiastic really quick. The ‘getting youth guys that can become heroes in their countries’ is something what attracts me. Point-7 is looking further than just windsurfing, which makes the brand interesting, but also for external sponsor for the riders. After I tested the sails it was clear, I’m proud to join Point-7!
What are your plans for this coming season?
It looks like I’m able to do the whole PWA tour next year, with 7 events that’s gonna be really cool. To be honest, it’s a dream coming true. Beside that I’ll do the Dutch Championships and some other events. With such a busy season I’ll focus on slalom. Next year I’m not going to do formula nationals, so I also have a little time to finish my study.
What’s your impression on the 2014 sails?
In lake Garda I tried the new sails and I was amazed. After the first few meters I directly had the speed and I directly knew: this are machines. Especially the acceleration was something I noticed really quickly, this winter I need to get used to higher speeds 😉
What’s your impression of the AC-1 racing sails in terms of behavior and feeling?
The AC-1 got the profile really in the front, this makes it feel really light and stable as you don’t have a lot of backhand pressure. I think sailing around with the sails is really comfortable and if you ask me, they look awesome !!
Will you be training this winter with the International and National Black Team?
This winter I hope to be for 2 months in Tenerife to train with the international black team. I think this is the perfect preparation for the upcoming PWA season. 2 months of starts, tuning, gym, full power sailing and getting destroyed… I’m looking forward to it!!
What do you hope to achieve with the Black Team?
To go for it all the way with a cool group of people around and develop my skills. I hope having a great preparation and be on events like a team will bring us lot’s of good results. Beside that I really want to see more Black on the Dutch waters next year.
Did you already meet the other Black Team members?
I knew most of the Black team riders already and so I knew with what kind of people I’m in the team. I can’t wait to know them better when I’m in Tenerife.
What can we expect from you regarding Point-7 in the Benelux?
There will be a new black team build up in the Benelux as well so for sure I’ll be training with those guys when I’m in Holland. I like to share my experiences with them and improve my level as well on the same time. Because we’ll have a boat and marks we got the facilities to do some professional training and I’m sure that there will be more Black in front in the national competitions! Beside that I’ll be going to some events to give clinics or tips and tricks about the AC-1.
Which spots do you sail in the Netherlands when you are not competing?
When I want to go for a quick session I always go to the Westeinderplassen (near Schiphol airport) which is 15min away. I think the Brouwersdam seaside is the best place in Holland, there’s lots of space, rough choppy conditions and a couple of kilometers out of the coast there’s a sandbank with many seals and an amazing view. If you go to Holland you should for sure have a session there!

Jordy, welkom “to the darkside of windsurfing” by Point-7! Waarom ben je met Point-7 in zee gegaan?
Thanks! Het was een eer om door Andrea Cucchi gevraagd te worden voor het Black Team. Toen Andrea alles uitlegde over het team en zijn visie werd ik al snel enthousiast. Het ‘getting young guys which can become heros in their countries’ is iets wat mij aantrok. Point-7 kijkt verder dan alleen maar simpelweg windsurfen, wat zowel interessant is voor het merk, maar ook mij heel erg kan helpen met andere sponsoren. Na het testen van de zeilen was het toen wel duidelijk, ik ga met trots bij Point-7 varen!
Wat zijn je plannen voor het komende seizoen?
Het lijkt erop dat ik aankomend jaar de hele PWA tour mee kan doen, met 7 evenementen wordt dat erg gaaf, stiekem toch wel een droom die uit komt. Daarnaast hoop ik nog wat NK’s mee te kunnen doen. Met zo’n druk seizoen ligt de focus dan ook op slalom, ik zal volgend jaar even geen formula meer varen, op deze manier hou ik ook nog een beetje tijd over voor m’n studie.
Wat zijn je indrukken van de zeilen voor 2014?
In Lake Garda heb ik al even met de zeilen gevaren en stond er echt van te kijken. Al na de eerste paar meters had ik de snelheid er al goed in zetten en wist ik gelijk: dit zit wel goed ! Vooral de acceleratie is iets wat me opviel, deze winter wordt het gewoon wennen aan hard gaan 😉
Wat vind je specifiek van de AC-1 zeilen qua vaargedrag en gevoel?
De AC-1 heeft het drukpunt erg ver voorin zitten, dit zorgt ervoor dat je weinig backhand voelt, de zeilen voelen daarom licht aan en extreem stabiel. Het rondvaren met de zeilen geeft dan ook een heel relax gevoel, naast het feit dat het design gewoon echt gaaf is.
Ga je deze winter ook trainen met het nationale en internationale Black Team van Point-7?
Deze winter hoop ik alles bij elkaar 2 maanden in Tenerife te zijn om te trainen met het internationale Black Team. Op deze manier kan ik me maximaal voorbereiden op het komende PWA seizoen. 2 maanden lang, starten, trimmen, knallen, gym en afgebeuld worden, ik heb er helemaal zin in!
Wat hoop je te bereiken met het Black Team?
Met een toffe groep mensen om mij heen er vol voor gaan en mijzelf persoonlijk sterk te ontwikkelingen. Door als team zo’n voorbereiding te doen en echt als team op de evenementen te staan hoop ik dat we met z’n alle top prestaties kunnen neerzetten. Daarnaast vind ik het erg leuk om in de Benelux meer Black op het water te krijgen, ik weet zeker dat dat met deze zeilen moet lukken!
Heb je al kennis gemaakt met de andere Black Team Leden?
De meeste Black Team leden kon ik al, dus ik wist bij wie ik terecht zou komen. Ik kan niet wachten om ze wat beter te leren kennen in Tenerife.
Wat kunnen we van je verwachten met betrekking tot Point-7 in de Benelux?
Aangezien er gewerkt wordt aan een raceteam in de Benelux ga ik ook vaak trainen met iedereen in de Benelux. Ik vind het leuk om mijn ervaringen met deze riders te delen en er ondertussen zelf nog een hoop van te leren. Met een boot en boeien zijn we goed gefaciliteerd en weet ik zeker dat er meer Black voorin gaat varen in de nationale wedstrijden. Daarnaast zal ik op wat evenementen aanwezig zijn om tips and tricks te geven over de AC-1.
Op welke spots vaar je in Nederland buiten de wedstrijden om?
Als ik even snel wil varen ga ik naar de Westeinderplassen (Aalsmeer), dat ligt lekker om de hoek en is met ZW een top spot. Daarnaast vaar ik het liefst op de Brouwersdam zeekant, heerlijk de ruimte, ruwe omstandigheden en een paar km uit de kust een zandplaat met zeehonden en een geweldig uitzicht.
