WHICH FOIL COMBO FOR YOUR NEEDS?

Which Point-7 Black Bullet Foil for my sails size and weight according to the wind?

There are a lot of wings, fuselage, masts combinations to set up foil gear. There are also diverse types of foil according to the discipline you would like to do. This choice is quite easy. Is a bit like with the sails you have in your hands, but let’s discover more in detail, on how to choose the right foil gear:

With the Point-7 Black Bullet foils we have tried to shrink down the choice of foils to make life easier for our clients to make the right choice for the wind range and discipline they would like to use the foil. We have worked on this with the expertise of F4 foils to guarantee only the best on the market for those who will choose Point-7. Each part is compatible, therefore you can also purchase the different parts to select your personal combo, and it can be done direcltly on our shop online.

  • Do you like more the freeride or wave sails? The F-ride will be your choice. A wide front wing to fly the board in light wind with a small sail size.
  • Black Bullet F-RIDE used with the 5.4 F1e
  • Do you like to slalom sail with no cam sails or small number of cams? The F-race foil will be your choice. Just like a pro slalom foil but being more affordable thanks to the aluminium mast.
  • Black Bullet F-RACE used on the 7.6 F1e
  • Do you like to use race sails, or just any slalom sail, but want no compromise to make your board fly? The Slalom Foil will be the only choice. Carbon mast, multiple selection of wings.
  • Black Bullet SLALOM used on the F1 SL 8.0

At this point, thanks to the above 3 questions, you can choose between the three categories of foils according to what you’d like to do. In which range of wind and which size of sail to use on the foil, this is explained in the table below.

From the table you should now know which foil size and sail will fit you best.

The F-ride offers three types of mast choices. Which one to choose?

The 90cm Plate: This is dedicated to the boards with the plate system. So quite simple to know if you would go for this or not. It depends on your board. The other choice is between the 85cm alu or the 97 HM Carbon. It’s not only the price making the difference and already making you chose according to budget you’d like to invest on a foil, but of course the materials and the length. The Alu version being in aluminium is softer, so it will be less reactive in the acceleration of the gust but being shorter 85cm length it helps from not dropping in with the nose of the board and catapult in case you lose control. The carbon version being longer (97cm) also will give you more play to gain more stability due to less deforming materials, reactive pumping, going over the higher chop or swell will be easier.

Once chosen the foil size, what other options are there to trim the foil?

Inside the Point-7 Black Bullet foils you will find two types of spacers in varied sizes.

    • One goes in the front part of the box and will push backward the rake of the foil. This means that it allows to rake to nose of the board higher to get more lift.
    • The second type of spacer goes between the back wing and the fuselage to decrease the power of the foil.

Can I use different sail models than the one in the table?

Sure, you can. You can use also sails which are made for normal windsurfing. The difference between a foil sail and a fin sail is the power on the back hand. The extra power a normal windsurfing sail has is needed to push on the fin, to lift the board. This is not what you want in foiling when the sail starts to be powered. Therefore, you can use a normal windsurfing sail, knowing that the range of wind will be less as wind increases. Not so much on a wave sail, but more when using any type of slalom sails.
